The term Surah refers to a chapter in the Koran. These chapters are divided into many stanzas called ayahs. The Koran and all of it’s Surahs are beautifully written, masterpieces of Arabic literature which no poet or author can compete with. Try as they may, no one can come close to the beauty of the Koran’s Surahs as they were dictated by the all-knowing, all-wise Allah. There are 114 Surahs in total, the shortest one is Al-Kawthar which is composed of only Ayahs while the longest one is Al-Baqara which is composed of 286 Ayahs. Arguably the most important one is Surah Yasin, considered by many to be the heart of the Koran.
